MUSICAL PLAYSPACE FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY

Timeline: 2011

Made possible by: The Design CIC, Kids Company

Location: Hampton Court, London UK
In collaboration with: the kids of Kids Company
Acclaim: Silver Gilt Medal at Hampton Court

This musical play space was designed in collaboration with the kids from a disadvantaged children’s charity.
A future option, in keeping with the design intentions of the 'kids', might be to rebuild this garden with its all singing, all dancing array of hi-tech wizardry and  it's digitalised musical pathway and a variety of augmented ‘instruments’. The proposal is to convert the theme of the poem, ‘the hero’s quest,’ into a virtual game which can be personalised for each participant as they 'pit their wits' against internal monsters.

A GARDEN FOR SURVIVORS OF THE RWANDAN GENOCIDE

Timeline: 2011

Made possible by: The Design CIC
Location: RHS Flower Show, London UK
In collaboration with: survivors of the Rwandan genocide
Acclaim: Best in Show

This garden raised awareness in a most poignant manner. Places do indeed speak to us, they speak to us of what is important. Given the right treatment, they can influence, control and manipulate human emotion - and just as they can engender 'the architecture of happiness', they have also been seen to deliver a treatise on sadness and compassion.

MILDMAY MISSION HEALING HOSPITAL

Timeline: 2017

Made possible by: The Design CIC, Mildmay Hospital Mission

In collaboration with: staff and patients of Mildmay Hospital

Responding to the call from Mildmay’s Director Dr Ross White for a sanctuary garden which offered: ‘safety’, ‘security’ and much needed ‘support’’, The Design Charity sought to create an immersive environment characterised by the 'aids ribbon pathway' which leads the visitor to an inclusive semi circular raised seating area set in luxurious planting.

Location: Emmaus Hampton Court Flower Show, London UK

In collaboration with: Emmaus Cambridge, Cambridge College

Emmaus Charity garden, 'An Uprising of kindness', celebrated the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Charity and Abbe Pierre's call to the french people on Radio Luxembourg:“My friends, come and help… A woman has just frozen to death at 3am on the pavement of Boulevard Sebastopol in Paris, clutching in her hand the eviction notice used to throw her out of her home the day before yesterday…"
